Membership in The American Legion is based on a calendar year from January 1st to December 31st. The renewal year is July 1st to June 30th. When a member pays their dues, they are paid up for that membership year.

When a member pays their dues, they are paid up for that membership year.
Renewal notices are sent out in July, October, January, March and May. When a member renews, they are removed from future renewal notices for that year. There are times when a member pays their dues, but they still receive a renewal notice. If dues are paid to the local post, it takes a little longer for national to be notified about the renewal and the member may receive another renewal notice. If this occurs, please check with your local post to ensure they have received your dues.
A member whose dues for the current year have not been paid by January 1st shall be classified as delinquent. If his or hers dues are paid on or before February 1st, he or she will be automatically reinstated. If the dues are still delinquent after February 1st their membership shall be suspended from all privileges. If he or she is still under suspension June 13th of each year, their membership in The American Legion shall be forfeited.

It may be easier to renew online. Go to http://mylegion.org set up your account. You can join, renew or become a PUFL (Paid Up For Life) member.
